Wind River is a 2017 American thriller film written and directed by Taylor Sheridan. The film stars Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen as agents of the US Fish and Wildlife Service and FBI, respectively, who try to solve a murder on the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming.

Plot

US Fish and Wildlife Service agent Cory Lambert is called to the Wind River Indian Reservation in order to investigate the mauling of livestock located on the property of Dan and Alice Crowheart, the parents of Wilma, his ex-wife. After concluding that the steer was killed by mountain lions, Lambert begins to retrace the trail left by the predators via snowmobile in hopes of locating their den. In the course of these efforts, Lambert happens upon the body of Natalie Hanson, an 18-year old resident of the reservation. Her corpse is frozen solid, and she is noticeably lacking shoes and proper winter attire. Lambert calls in the body by radio and signals the local authorities, headed by Tribal Police Chief, Ben. Suspecting foul play, the FBI is notified and rookie special agent Jane Banner is immediately dispatched from Las Vegas in order to determine whether a murder had indeed transpired.
